Entry Level Buildings & Grounds Crew Member

Responsible for performing semi-skilled tasks in a multi-craft environment, including the maintenance of building grounds and interior environments at a large 1100-unit apartment facility located on 16th Street NW.

– relocate abandoned furniture from apartments after tenants have vacated;
– manage waste & recyclable materials throughout the building including trash chute and compactor operation;
– install seasonal plantings, transplanting, cultivating, pruning and maintaining a variety of landscaped areas such as lawns, ground cover, plants, shrubs, hedges and trees;
– provide continuous grooming of exterior landscape and other outdoor facilities used by residents;
– clean and maintain paved areas, paths, building entrances/exits, swimming pool surround, and elevated public terrace.
– perform snow removal and salting of facilities & access ways;
– secure worksites from safety hazards as necessary;
– carries out assignments in a non-disruptive manner in areas receiving heavy public use;
– provide occasional custodial and janitorial services;
– assist with special event setup & breakdown;
– deliver tenant notices to apartments;
– operate and maintain a variety of hand/power tools and equipment;
– contribute to the efficiency & effectiveness of the department by offering suggestions & participating as an active member of the team.
– assist onsite Market transfer products from the loading dock to the onsite store location.

– to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with some oversight from the department manager.
– communicate effectively in oral and written forms;
– establish & maintain effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of the work;
– possess some experience with a variety of hand, power and shop tools;
– be familiar with basic landscaping and handyman practices;
– be self-motivated and diligent;
– maintain a clean & neat personal appearance, company provides uniforms;
– have strength and mobility to work in a typical field or shop maintenance setting, including operating hand and power tools, stamina to perform sustained physical labor, including standing, walking, climbing and working in confined or awkward spaces, and able lift and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
– able to work weekends/evenings plus overtime as scheduled.
